The Emmet County Correctional Facility is a county jail operated by the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office. People held there may be unsentenced or sentenced and may face civil, misdemeanor, or felony matters. That mix produces several kinds of exit. Other exits are transfers. A person can leave the Bay Street building for MDOC, another county, or another custodian. Confirm Emmet Facility Releases

Request Emmet Facility Release Records
A historical Emmet County release is best fixed through an existing Sheriff record. Ask for the booking sheet and the release or movement log entry tied to one booking. Useful identifiers include the committed name and aliases, date of birth if known, booking number, and a narrow date range. Request the release date and time, release event, and receiving agency or facility when the event was a transfer.

Emmet Facility Custody Profile
The Emmet County Correctional Facility holds adult men and women in sentenced and unsentenced custody. Its official description covers civil, misdemeanor, and felony commitments to the Sheriff. The current building has maximum-, medium-, and minimum-security units plus four temporary holding cells. Two of those cells were identified for detoxification in the annual report.
The report lists 684 male and 282 female admissions. Admissions are not releases. They must not be used as an annual release count. The same report’s population graph shows a high of 54 and a low of 31 for that year, which describes daily jail use rather than movement outcomes.
Emmet Facility Release History
The county jail grew in stages. It opened as a 20-bed jail in 1967, expanded to 27 beds in 1983, and used double bunking to reach 33 by 1990. A 1997 addition brought work-release space and raised capacity to 49. Later work increased capacity to 69 in 1999 and then 103 in 2006.
That history helps explain an important release-record nuance. Work release is an authorized movement tied to an ongoing sentence. It does not always mean the sentence ended. The 2023 annual report says work release resumed after a three-year suspension. Emmet Facility Release Programs
Official jail materials list work release, work crew or trustee roles, substance-use education and assessment, Alcoholics Anonymous, spiritual services, medical and mental-health care, and individualized education. These programs can shape the transition from custody, but participation alone does not establish that a release has occurred.
The 2023 report says Bear River Health provided assessment, peer support, and discharge planning. Community Corrections also has a local reentry mission. These are program routes, not custody locators. For a person’s actual status, return to VINE, the jail, and the movement record.
Work crew and trustee assignments are also distinct from final release. They describe an approved activity while the Sheriff still controls custody. The same care applies to work release, which may allow set periods outside the building while a jail sentence continues. A VINE alert or movement entry should be read with its precise event label, the court order, and the remaining sentence terms.
Emmet Release Funds and Property
The annual report records a distinctive local decision about release funds. Emmet considered prepaid debit release cards but did not adopt them because few people leaving had a balance. That fact does not establish how every current cash balance or personal item is returned. No official source supplied a general property-return procedure, pickup location, or identification rule.
Call Corrections for a person-specific property question. The jail page also provides bond payment through a lobby kiosk, ExpressAccount online, or 866-422-6833, with service fees based on the amount. A payment receipt proves only that the payment was processed. It does not prove the person left the facility, since holds and release processing may remain.
Emmet Facility Release Timing
No official Emmet source states routine release hours, the exit door, family waiting rules, weekend or holiday processing, transportation home, or a standard property-return process. Those omissions are part of the research finding. Generic jail practices should not be inserted in their place.
